matchachatsJoin the network matchachats (“we,” “us”) helps university students meet people worth knowing and turns a match into a 20-minute conversation on both calendars. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It covers getmatcha.now and the app at app.getmatcha.now.
The short version: we use your information to match you with people and schedule meetings. We never sell your data, we never use it for ads, and we only read when you’re busy on your calendar, never what your events are.
What we collect
From your Google account when you sign in. Your name, school email address, profile picture and Google account ID. We use your email domain to confirm which university you attend.
What you tell us. Your interests, who you’d like to meet, what you’re working on, a short tagline, your general location (a city or campus, never an address), links you choose to add (like GitHub or LinkedIn), your profile photo and, only if you choose to enter it, your GPA.
Your resume. You upload a resume during onboarding so we can build your profile. We read it to pull out things like your school, major, projects and experience, and you review everything before it’s saved. The resume file itself stays private: it is never shown to other users, and we keep only your most recent one.
Your calendar (optional). If you connect Google Calendar, we request only free/busy access. That tells us the times you’re busy, nothing else: no event titles, descriptions, attendees or locations. We use those busy times to suggest meeting times that work for both people.
Activity in the app. Who you skip or request, meeting requests and their short notes, messages you send to people you’ve matched with, meetings you schedule, and the private feedback you give after a meeting. We also keep a record of invites you send and whether they were used.
Technical information. Basic usage events (for example, that a meeting was scheduled) and error reports that help us fix bugs. These are tied to an account ID, not your email address.
How we use it
- To show you a small set of people each day who we think you’d have a great conversation with, and to explain why.
- To find times you and a match are both free, and to schedule and remind you about meetings.
- To let you message people once you’ve both agreed to meet.
- To improve future matches using private meeting feedback.
- To keep the community safe, including handling reports and blocks.
- To send you notifications you can turn off in Settings.
Your public profile shows what you choose to put on it. We never show other users your email address, resume file, calendar, private feedback, exact location, or any internal score about you.
Google user data
We access Google Calendar data only to show you and your match times when you’re both free. We do not use Google user data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not let humans read it except with your permission, for security reasons, or when the law requires it.
matchachats’ use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
How we protect it
Calendar access tokens are encrypted. Resumes are stored in private storage that is never publicly accessible. Access to our systems is limited to the team members who need it to run the service.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. Your calendar busy times are refreshed regularly and old ones are replaced. When you delete your account, we delete your personal information within 30 days, except for anything we must keep for legal or safety reasons.
Your choices
- Edit your profile at any time in the app.
- Disconnect your calendar in Settings → Calendar. We stop reading it and delete your stored access. You can also remove matchachats from your Google Account permissions.
- Turn off notifications in Settings → Notifications.
- Block or report anyone from their profile or your conversation.
- Delete your account by emailing us at askmatchachats@gmail.com. We delete your personal information within 30 days.
If you live in California or another place with privacy laws, you have the right to know what we collect, to get a copy, to correct it and to delete it. Email us at askmatchachats@gmail.com to use those rights. We will not treat you differently for doing so.
Students and age
matchachats is for university students and is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email us at askmatchachats@gmail.com and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we’ll update the date above and let you know in the app before the change takes effect.
