Terms of Service

Last updated: October 1, 2026 · Version 2026-10-01

These are the terms for using matcha (“matcha,” “we,” “us”), the app at app.getmatcha.now and the website at getmatcha.now. matcha helps university students meet people worth knowing. By creating an account or using matcha, you agree to these terms.

The short version: matcha is for students who are 18 or older. We make introductions and help you schedule a conversation, but we don’t run background checks. Be kind, be honest, meet in public, and look after your own safety.

Who can use matcha

To use matcha you must:

  • Be 18 or older.
  • Sign in with a verified student email address at a school matcha supports.
  • Give us accurate information about yourself and keep your account to yourself. One person, one account.

If you don’t meet these requirements, or you don’t agree to these terms, please don’t use matcha.

What matcha is and isn’t

What we do. matcha introduces university students to each other and helps them schedule a short conversation. We suggest people you might want to meet, find a time that works for both of you, and give you a place to message each other once you’ve both agreed to meet.

What we don’t do. We do not run background checks, and we do not verify what users say about themselves beyond their school email address. We are not a party to your conversations or meetings, we do not supervise them, and we can’t promise how another user will behave.

Meeting other users

Meetings on matcha are by video by default. A meeting happens in person only when both people choose that, and in-person meetings must take place in a public place.

You are solely responsible for your own interactions with other users and for your own safety, online and in person. Use the same judgment you would with anyone you’ve just met.

Safety tips.

  • Meet in a busy public place on or near campus, like a café or a library, during the day.
  • Tell a friend who you’re meeting, where and when.
  • Get yourself there and back on your own.
  • Don’t share your home address, passwords or financial information.
  • Keep your first conversations on matcha so there is a record if something goes wrong.
  • Leave whenever you feel uncomfortable. You never owe anyone a meeting.
  • If you are in immediate danger, call 911 or campus security first, then report the person to us.

Assumption of risk and release

Meeting people you don’t know carries risk. By using matcha, you understand and accept the risks of talking to and meeting other users, including the risk that someone is not who they say they are or behaves badly.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release matcha and its founders from any claims, demands and damages that arise from your interactions with other users, whether online or in person.

Some laws limit releases like this one. For example, California Civil Code § 1668 does not allow anyone to be released from responsibility for their own fraud, willful injury, or violation of law. This release does not apply where the law does not allow it.

Conduct rules

We want matcha to be a place where people are glad they said yes. When you use it, don’t:

  • Harass anyone. No threats, hate, bullying, or sexual or romantic advances that aren’t wanted.
  • Spam. No selling, recruiting, advertising or mass messaging.
  • Impersonate. Don’t pretend to be someone else or misstate your school, your work or who you are.
  • Misuse the service. Don’t scrape it, break it, get around its limits, use it for anything illegal, or share other users’ information without their permission.

Blocking and reporting. You can block or report anyone from their profile or from your conversation with them. A blocked person can no longer reach you, and reports are reviewed by our team. You can also email us at askmatchachats@gmail.com.

What we can do. We can warn you, limit your account, suspend it or remove it if we believe you’ve broken these rules or put other users at risk.

Disclaimer of warranties

matcha is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

We don’t promise that matcha will always be available or free of errors, that you’ll be matched with anyone, or that an introduction will lead to anything. We don’t vouch for any user’s identity, intentions or conduct.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, matcha and its founders will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, opportunity or goodwill, arising from your use of matcha or from the conduct of any other user.

Our total liability for all claims relating to matcha will not be more than the greater of $100 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Some places don’t allow certain limits on liability, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Indemnification

If someone brings a claim against matcha or its founders because of something you did, including breaking these terms, breaking the law, or harming another user, you agree to cover the resulting losses and costs, including reasonable legal fees, to the extent the law allows.

Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it and the choices you have. By using matcha, you agree that we can handle your information as described there.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as matcha grows. When we make a meaningful change, we’ll update the date and version at the top of this page and ask you to agree to the new version in the app before you continue. If you don’t agree, you can stop using matcha and ask us to delete your account.

Termination

You can stop using matcha at any time, and you can ask us to delete your account by emailing askmatchachats@gmail.com. We can suspend or end your access if you break these terms, or if we stop offering matcha. The sections on assumption of risk and release, disclaimer of warranties, limitation of liability, indemnification and governing law continue to apply after your account ends.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute about these terms or matcha will be brought in the state or federal courts located in California.
